Start of winter fishing!!!!

Well the nights are closing in fast and becoming cold, that means on thing, COD!!  Anglers along the coast have been looking forward to these cold winters nights, and come darkness they will be out on the beaches, rocks and cliff tops hunting their favorite quarry, the elusive Cod.

Last night I fished Tennis Courts at Flambourgh with local angler Steve.  I am indebted to Steve for showing my the ropes as I have never fished off cliffs before and had no idea of was needed.  The scenery is simply stunning and to the romantic "wild and remote", the feeling of solitude was awe inspiring.

First Cast produce a Billet of around a 1lb, the first thing i noticed was the "Braid" Steve was fishing with, my god you can feel every nibble/bite on the line and even the sea swell.  Darkness had now fallen and the sky was crystal clear, as was the sea!!  The tide was huge 6.10, unfortunately no colour or movement in the sea.  Another good tap on the rod so a larger Billet on the cliff, but still the Cod did not come out to play.

Tennis Courts

At around 9pm Steve caught our 3rd and final fish of the session, Cod, sadly no it was a good sized Billet.  It is worth mentioning on what was a cold night I was kept warm and comfortable in my Sundridge floatation suit, fantastic "kit"

I am very grateful to steve for introducing me to the cliffs and went away with a shopping list, and already looking forward to the next session............
